Bosch Boost Pressure Sensor (MAP) for 5-Cylinder Volvo Diesel engines
Has your 5-Cyli diesel-powered Volvo started running unevenly, consuming more fuel than usual, or losing power?
If so, a faulty MAP sensor / Boost Pressure Sensor could be the cause.
A defective boost pressure sensor can cause a wide range of symptoms. You can read about the most common ones in the full product description further down the page.

Bosch Boost Pressure Sensor (MAP) for 5-Cylinder Volvo Diesel engines is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Boost pressure sensor (MAP sensor) for several Volvo models equipped with 5-cylinder diesel engines, including C30, S60, V60, S80, V70, XC70 and XC60.
The sensor measures the pressure in the engine's charge air system and sends this information to the Engine Control Module (ECM). This data is used to monitor and regulate turbocharger boost pressure, which is essential for proper engine performance and operation.
A faulty or contaminated boost pressure sensor can provide incorrect readings, potentially affecting engine performance and drivability.
Common Symptoms of a Faulty Boost Pressure Sensor
A defective MAP sensor can cause various issues, including:
-
Reduced engine power – The vehicle feels sluggish, particularly during acceleration or under heavy load.
-
Jerky or uneven acceleration – The engine hesitates or responds poorly to throttle input.
-
Engine enters limp mode – The engine management system limits power due to incorrect boost pressure readings.
-
Check engine light or warning message – For example, "Engine System Service Required".
-
Increased fuel consumption – Incorrect sensor readings can affect the engine management system's calculations.
-
Black smoke during acceleration – Incorrect air and fuel regulation may contribute to excessive exhaust smoke.
-
Vehicle stops accelerating until kickdown is activated – Incorrect sensor readings may cause the engine management system to limit acceleration until a kickdown is performed.
A faulty boost pressure sensor may also trigger diagnostic trouble codes related to boost or intake manifold pressure, such as P0106, P0236, P0237 or P0238.
Please note that these symptoms and fault codes can also be caused by other issues within the charge air system. We therefore recommend checking fault codes and live sensor readings before replacing the sensor.
